2010 Medical Council of New Zealand Summer Studentships

Free Research Reviews

10,000 medical journals are published each month and keeping up is hard work on top of an already busy schedule. Research review publications make it easy to keep up with the latest studies. Each review is 4 pages long and takes approx 15 minutes to read. Each one reviews around 10 articles published in top global peer reviewed journals and has a commentary from a New Zealand specialist about the implications for New Zealand. http://www.researchreview.co.nz/

Developing a Career in Academic Surgery

The Developing a Career in Academic Surgery Course (DCAS) was held for the first time in 2009. In 2010 it will be held on Monday, May 3 in Perth. This one day course is complimentary for medical students, although you will have to cover your own travel costs and accomodation. If you are interested in attending, we have more information (the draft programme etc) to share, so please email vpe@nzmsa.org.nz.

From Tuesday May 4 – Friday May 7 is the RACS Annual Scientific Congress. Registration for this is $1015 (before 16 March 2010) or $1125 after.  We can suggest sponsorship ideas to help you pay to get there, another good reason to get in touch!

WHO

From time to time, there are opportunities to visit the World Health Organisation, or complete internships with them. These are in Geneva and you have to find your own money (beg, borrow or steal…) to get there. If you are planning a trip to Europe anyway and are interested in finding out more, then please email president@nzmsa.org.nz

The next one is a study visit to the WHO May 9th-14th (like an introduction to who they are and what’s happening there). It includes a visit to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum and the Palais de Nations.  It’s a unique chance to visit WHO Headquarters and gain priceless experience.
