Winners of NZMSA Awards Announced at our AGM

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

At the NZMSA AGM on Saturday the 7th of August, the winners of the inaugural NZMSA Awards were announced.

The NZMSA Award for Individual Excellence, recognising an outstanding contribution to the NZ medical student body, was awarded to Sylvia Ross in recognition of her excellent work as the Convenor of Conference 2010, her involvement in Country Scrubs and the Christchurch Surgical Interest Group in 2009, as well as with the MECA Conference in Dunedin.

The NZMSA Award for the Best New Student Initiative, recognising exciting and creative student-run initiatives, was awarded to the 11th Edition of the New Zealand Medical Students’ Journal (NZMSJ). This award was given in recognition of the excellent contributions the NZMSJ has made in furthering and promoting medical student research.

A big thanks to all those who nominated students and/or initiatives for the respective awards. The NZMSA Executive had a very difficult time deciding the winners of the awards, in light of the high-quality of nominations we received.

One of NZMSA’s Big Issues is Clinical Leadership. We have a commitment and a responsibility as the premier representative body for medical students to provide our members with the opportunities to develop their leadership skills, and recognise those students who have already shown excellent leadership.
