Sir Michael Marmot Symposium – Health equity and the social determinants of health

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

The NZMA, in conjunction with the Heart Foundation and The University of Auckland, cordially invites you to attend a symposium on health equity and the social determinants of health.

The symposium will take place on Tuesday 12 July and features international guest speaker Professor Sir Michael Marmot, a world-renowned researcher and advocate on health inequities and the Chair of the WHO Commission on the social determinants of health.

Seats for this symposium are filling up fast, and we expect that the event will be full by Friday. Please send your RSVP urgently if you wish to attend. Details for RSVPs are on the flyer, including further details about the event, and the full list of speakers.

The NZMA is committed to promoting health equity and it is a key focus of our advocacy work. In February we published our position statement on health equity (http://www.nzma.org.nz/news/policies/Healthequities), calling for an urgent whole of government approach to improve health equity in New Zealand, with a particular focus on our most vulnerable groups. The NZMA has organised Sir Michael Marmot to visit New Zealand 11-15 July 2011 to help raise awareness and to present a vision for greater health equity.

We look forward to seeing you at the symposium.
