NCW

National Consultative Workshop (NCW) is an intensive, one-day leadership development forum hosted by the NZMSA for medical student representatives from the various medical student-run groups from across the country.  Consisting of a series of lectures, consultation sessions, and practical workshops by skilled guests from across the health-sector and beyond, NCW provides an opportunity for delegates to upskill and develop their organisations, network and collaborate with their counterparts from across the country, as well as connect with NZMSA – with the overall aim of building leadership capacity amongst medical students.

Themes addressed at previous NCWs have included:

  • Professionalism and Clinical Governance
  • The growing role of research in medicine
  • “Local” global  health: Combining specialists’ skills with leadership abroad
  • Group Theory and Organisational dynamics

Workshops held at previous NCWs have included the following:

  • incorporated society status
  • managing club finances
  • dealing with the media
  • sponsorship opportunities
  • utilising social media

NCW 2011

This year, NCW will be held at the Wellington School of Medicine on Saturday the 9th of April. This year, the theme for NCW will be importance of clinical leadership in New Zealand and the need for fostering a culture of leadership within the medical community. In addition, work is currently underway to organise workshops on policy writing, fundraising, and how to run effective meetings, and more.

Invitations to members from the various rural, global health and surgical global health interest groups, as well as the Maori and Pasifika medical student associations will be sent out in March.
