Conference

Conference is the largest event on the NZMSA calendar. Each year, a convener (along with a dedicated Organising Committee) is selected by the NZMSA Executive to run Conference for the following year.

Conference 2010: Outside the Box.

Conference 2010 took place in Queenstown from 21st – 23 May 2010. It was NZMSA’s biggest Conference so far with almost 160 students in attendance, and was the first Conference to be held outside of medical school city.

The Conference focused on four main themes:

  • Living Outside the Box
    • Incredible achievements performed in life, outside of medicine.
  • Thinking Outside the Box
    • Exciting new medical research and technology.
  • Working Outside the Box
    • Amazing medical work.
  • Learning Outside the Box
    • Hands on, practical sessions.

Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive with students enjoying the the high quality of local, national and international speakers, and of course the brilliant location of Queenstown.

Conference ’09: The Art of Medicine

The 2009 Conference took place in Christchurch and was attended by over 130 students. The conference addressed work-life balance, risks and responsibilities, the importance of multidisciplinary teams, and doctors’ health and wellbeing.

Convening Conference

Are you interested in convening the next Conference? Applications are now open for the position of Conference Convenor. This is a demanding role (don’t underestimate the amount of work required) but is hugely satisfying. You will be in charge of a team which you have selected to bring Conference to fruition. Requirements

The position of Conference Convener is open to all members of NZMSA. It is best if you have attended an NZMSA Conference as a delegate and you will need to demonstrate strong organisational and leadership skills before applying, but there are no specific requirements.
