Professor Peter Black

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

It was with disbelief and great sadness that members of the New Zealand Medical Students’ Association received the news of the untimely and tragic loss of Professor Peter Black.

Professor Black’s awards, achievements & advances in respiratory research are tribute to the great clinician & researcher he was. But the respect & love that he earned from his students are testament to the passion he exuded for his work when teaching.

From being the education representative in the Auckland University Medical Students’ Association when he attended medical school, to lecturing and teaching students, Professor Black was keenly involved in medical student education. His wit and charm will be dearly missed, both in the lecture theatre & in the staff-student debates.

Peter Black has been, and will continue to be, an inspiration to the students at the Auckland Medical School.

The NZMSA, and in particular the students of the Auckland Medical School, wish to pass our sincere condolences to Professor Black’s wife & daughter. Our thoughts are with you through this difficult time.
